6.5 圖像文件后綴一覽表
文件格式是存儲文本、圖形或者圖像數據的一種數據結構。在文字處理中，存儲文本文件要使用文件格式。例如，使用微軟公司的Word處理器編寫的文件，可根據不同的應用環境用不同的格式存儲。如果使用多信息文本格式(Rich Text Format，RTF)存儲，這個文件就可在其他的平臺(如Mac機)或者使用其他的字處理器進行處理。同樣，存儲圖像也需要有存儲格式，從20世紀70年代圖像開始進入計算機以來，開發了許許多多的圖像文件存儲格式，而且互相不兼容，需要使用針對特定格式的處理軟件。現在都意識到，不兼容的格式給用戶造成很多的不便，因此有些格式也逐漸被淘汰。
在計算機中，有兩種類型的圖：矢量圖(vector graphics)和位映象圖(bitmapped graphics)。矢量圖是用數學方法描述的一系列點、線、弧和其他幾何形狀，如圖6-17(a)所示。因此存放這種圖使用的格式稱為矢量圖格式，存儲的數據主要是繪制圖形的數學描述；位映象圖(bitmapped graphics)也稱光柵圖(raster graphics)，這種圖就像電視圖像一樣，由象點組成的，如圖6-17(b)，因此存放這種圖使用的格式稱為位映象圖格式，經常簡稱為位圖格式，存儲的數據是描述像素的數值。
